Geoffrey Bawa's hotel on a headland just north of Galle, opened in 1997 with work by the artists Laki Senanayake and Ena de Silva; Senanayake's sculpted staircase depicts the Battle of Randeniwela between the Sinhalese and the Portuguese.

It has 80 rooms and 5 suites across the original main wing and a spa wing added in 2013, each room with a king-size bed and a balcony or terrace.

There are 2 pools and a children's pool, a spa run by Balinese therapists, a floodlit tennis court and 6 restaurants and bars, one of them open 24 hours.
