A tented safari camp on 10 acres of private forest against the Yala National Park elephant fence, run by Mahoora, a Sri Lankan safari camping company.

Every booking has its own jeep and naturalist, and the camp enters the park by the quieter Katagamuwa gate, about 20 minutes away, heading for the less visited blocks on longer stays.

The stay is all-inclusive: a safari for each night with park fees, meals by the campfire and, in the Elite tents, drinks all day.

Good to know

  • The camp has no swimming pool and no air conditioning.
  • Families are welcome, with meals, a jeep and a naturalist set up for children.
  • The camp neighbours a village, and religious gatherings can sometimes be heard; earplugs are kept for guests.
  • Yala National Park closes Blocks 1 and 2 for part of each dry season, usually for about a month from September, with dates set each year; safaris then run in other blocks or at Lunugamvehera.
