Uga Resorts' hotel on the south coast: 7 suites in 3 categories on a rocky headland at Unakuruwa, 5 km from Tangalle town, set in 2.5 acres of gardens that run down to a secluded beach.

The name comes from pravala, the Sanskrit word for coral, and the design is modern and minimalist, with clean lines, neutral colours and natural materials. Every suite has an ocean view and a balcony, and a 41-metre infinity pool runs along the edge of the cliff.

Every suite has a dedicated butler. The restaurant cooks Sri Lankan dishes around fresh seafood and local produce, and the hotel has a spa, a gym, a library and a recreation room, with private yoga and a sunrise sound healing session led by a Buddhist instructor.
