A 19th-century colonial manor house, or walawwa, among paddy fields inland from Tangalle, restored as a small hotel with interiors reworked by the architect Channa Daswatte.

It takes resident guests only, in a handful of large rooms with four-poster beds, teak floors and marble bathrooms, around a sunken pool, with butlers, a resident manager and an executive chef.

Its Indriya Spa and yoga pavilion over the fields run Ayurvedic programmes of 3 days and more, and the manor sits next to the 400-year-old Aranwela temple.
