A small all-inclusive camp of 5 safari tents for 10 to 12 guests, on a 5-acre patch of forest beside Wilpattu National Park.

It is run by Ceylon Nature Trails, a group of wildlife photographers who have worked in Sri Lanka's parks for decades and published books of their work; one of them often guides the drives.

The package covers park fees, 2 shared drives a day with a naturalist and photographer, and all meals, and the camp runs on solar and wind power.

Dining

  • All meals are cooked at camp by the camp's chef, Sri Lankan and Western, with the spice adjusted for guests and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets on advance notice; a refrigerator keeps drinks cold.

Good to know

  • Best for children over 8.
  • There are no ramps, and a few small steps lead up to each tent.
  • The camp is unfenced beside the park, and staff walk guests to their tents after dark.
  • There is no laundry service, and no air conditioning.
  • Drivers stay at a motel in the nearby village, at the guest's cost; guests are met at the park entrance.
  • Open all year; late October to early January is the wet season, when parts of the park can be impassable.
