An all-inclusive tented camp on an 8-acre private site beside a lake near Wilpattu's southern boundary, run by Mahoora, the safari-camp company of Eco Team Sri Lanka.

The Elite tents are large handmade safari tents with a separate living-room tent, a bedroom tent and an en-suite bathroom with a hot shower.

Game drives with the camp's own jeeps and naturalists are included, with walks to a lake visited by elephants and a village walk and lake bath for stays of 2 nights or more.

Dining

  • All meals are cooked at camp by the executive chef: Continental and Sri Lankan breakfasts, a Sri Lankan lunch and, for Elite guests, a 7-course dinner including a barbecue by the campfire, each served at a different lit setting.
  • Elite stays include unlimited local beer, arrack, gin and brandy and imported wine; Premium stays include pre-dinner drinks and wine by the glass at dinner.

Good to know

  • There is no swimming pool and no air conditioning; tents have fans.
  • The camp borders a village and farmland, and sounds of village ceremonies can carry at times; earplugs are available.
  • Wi-Fi runs only between 10:00 and 13:00 and between 18:30 and 22:30, and phone signal is patchy.
  • Drivers cannot stay at the camp; the camp can help arrange rooms nearby.
  • Some activities are included only for stays of 2 nights or more.
