George Thomson turned the Newburgh estate into a tea factory in 1903; it was modernised in 2009 to make Chinese-style green tea, and Browns Hotels & Resorts opened it as a hotel on 30 January 2026.

Rooms are graded like tea, as Bronze, Silver and Golden Tip, and the SKY observation deck looks over the Ella Gap and the tea valleys.
