A colonial seafront hotel that opened in 1864 on the site of a Dutch villa, and was rebuilt as a 2-storey hotel in 1894 by the architect Edward Skinner.

It has 156 rooms and suites, most facing the Indian Ocean, a saltwater pool private to hotel guests and 6 restaurants and bars, from fine dining to a pub.

The hotel keeps a museum of past guests and artefacts, with tours by its historian on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and croquet on the south lawn.
